Infineon Technologies has launched a MOTIX specifically designed for brushless DC motors in the 24/48 V market ™ TLE9140EQW Gate Driver Integrated Circuit (IC). TLE9140 is specifically designed for automotive motor control applications that require higher voltage levels, ranging from 24 V to up to 72 V. It is particularly suitable for situations that require enhanced system reliability and faster switching performance.
This integrated circuit is the perfect complement to Infineon MOTIX MCU TLE987x and TLE989x 32-bit motor control SoC solutions. It can also be used as a 48 V BLDC driver in conjunction with commonly used MCUs. Common applications include pumps and fans, wipers, HVAC modules, and electronic compressors. In addition, TLE9140 is also used as a three-phase motor door driver in various industries, including commercial, construction, and agricultural vehicles, as well as light electric vehicles such as electric bicycles, electric scooters, and electric motorcycles.
The gate driver integrated circuit provides functional safety in accordance with the ISO 26262 ASIL B standard. The device is packaged in a compact TS-DSO-32 package. Integrated circuits provide a maximum voltage capacity of 110 V, approximately 230 nC/mosfet gate drive capacity, frequencies up to 20 kHz, and support SPI communication. When the voltage exceeds the specified limit (V SM overvoltage), the equIPMent has an active low side idle wheel function. In addition, it includes various diagnostic and protection functions, such as timeout watchdog, source leakage monitoring, overvoltage, undervoltage, cross current, and over temperature protection. It also provides shutdown status diagnosis function.
In addition, TLE9140 has Infineon's unique gate shape characteristic, which is an adaptive MOSFET control mechanism that can compensate for changes in MOSFET characteristics within the system. The gate current will automatically adjust to provide appropriate switching behavior. By implementing slower slopes, shorter dead time, and shorter rise/fall times, the system can be optimized in terms of electromagnetic emission (EMI) while reducing power dissipation.
Infineon's MOTIX motor control ICs are supplemented with diverse software and tools to accelerate the evaluation and design investment process. The TLE9140 evaluation board is designed to be easy to operate, allowing users to quickly evaluate and develop prototypes. In addition, Infineon also provides configuration wizards and device drivers for TLE9140. These tools provide a simple application programming interface (API) for creating control frames for external bridge drivers using a serial peripheral interface (SPI). Both of these tools are available for free.
