Recently, American MCU manufacturer Microchip announced that it will expand its partnership with TSMC, which will establish a dedicated 40nm production line for Microchip in Japan Manufacturing (JASM).
Microchip states that this collaboration is part of its continuous strategy to improve supply chain resilience. Other measures include investing in additional technology to enhance internal manufacturing and production capabilities, as well as establishing more regional diversity and redundancy, and collaborating with wafer fabs, foundries, assembly, testing, and OSAT partners.
JASM is a holding manufacturing subsidiary of TSMC in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. Its wafer production capacity supply further enhances Microchip's ability to provide services to global customers in various markets, such as automotive, industrial, and network applications.
In addition, TSMC's partnership and JASM capacity can help offset external factors such as constantly changing business conditions and natural disasters (for example, the recent earthquake in Taiwan, China Province of China caused partial production suspension), thus reducing the risk of supply chain disruption.
